NFC implant received – and now?

Here we explain how to write your NFC implant correctly in order to use it optimally for everyday life. All these possibilities are also applicable for normal NFC tags. We recommend the app “NFC Tools” to get started, because it is easy to use, you don’t need any previous knowledge and it supports many free functions.

What you should know about the NFC implant beforehand

Note that if you have an NFC implant from us, that the chip in the syringe is not scanned and therefore not writable. The metal of the syringe prevents the transmission. If you have chosen one of our partner piercers, they will check the NFC implant for function shortly after the procedure.

First, your smartphone has to get acquainted with your NFC implant. In this way, you ensure that the functions selected and configured later are also compatible and work properly. The RFID spiral that is essentially responsible for the reception is located in the batteries of smartphones. Since these have different shapes, it may take time to determine the correct point and angle. With this reading tool, you can also check if your purchased NFC lock, car lock or similar. Your implant supports. For many end devices, you can find the exact NFC type in the data sheet. If you still have questions, we will be happy to help you.

Add data set

In the subitem Write you can get down to the nitty-gritty. You can add and combine different data sets from a pool of functions. But more about that in the next step. The Pro version is suitable for NFC users who want to copy and manage many data sets, i.e. less interesting for implant users. Right below you will find the trigger for the write function with the information how big the described data set is. Keep in mind that the new data set is always exchanged for the old one. In turn, a data set can completely occupy the memory. You will quickly get a feeling that the over 888byte (unformat) is more than sufficient. Since many functions can be combined, it makes sense here to set the priorities by shifting them up or down. However, this means that some of the functions below will be ignored, because Android considers them to make little sense or some functions to be contradictory. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

For example, when you are sitting in the car, you not only want your smartphone to connect to the Bluetooth hands-free system, but also want the wifi to be turned off to save power for navigation. Write data to NFC implant

If you have successfully added a function to the data set using the tutorial below, you can write the data set to the NFC implant. To do this, select “Write / X Bytes”. Now a window will open asking you to touch the tag. The same principle applies here as for reading out. It may take some time once you have found the right spot on your smartphone.

The implant reacts only after the second or third time? This can be normal and has several causes. Firstly, the chipset we use is a MIFARE NTAG216 and therefore just large enough to read data at this high frequency in the latest NFC technology. Larger chipsets are not suitable as implants. The other cause lies with humans and smartphones. We are accustomed by ever faster processors that a touch causes a reaction in fractions of a second. After a little practice, repetition will hardly be necessary.

Share social media data

“Do you have Istagram?” or “Ad me on Facebook!” is something you hear almost every day. Especially with new acquaintances, it is now common to ask for a social profile instead of a mobile number. Often it fails at frequently represented names or very neutral profile photo to filter out the right contact. This can be remedied with an NFC implant. Select the desired platform. Then enter your user name. If you do not know your profile name, simply log in to Facebook or co. using your browser and copy the name or ID into the corresponding field. If your opponent has the preferred social app, your profile will open automatically.

Filling an NFC tag with a text is very simple and self-explanatory. However, added for completeness. If you have only a text function in the record, the text is displayed directly without confirmation or selection option. Html is not possible here.

Open file

Open a specific file with one touch. This can be a photo or an .mp3 file. If you don’t know the exact path, you can select it manually by clicking the arrow next to the text input. Keep in mind that if you move the file to another folder on the smartphone, you have to adjust the path.

Send email

Here you can create a sample email in no time at all, which then opens automatically when you touch the NFC tag. The “send” button, however, must still be clicked manually. This is also intentional, since you can still decide from which email address the sample message should be sent. With a character length of 100 and a 12 character subject line, we need a storage space of 148 bytes.

Problems with writing the NFC implant

The smartphone does not respond to the NFC implant

If you exclude the typical causes, but I still want to mention once:

  • NFC is not activated
  • The smartphone does not support NFC
  • The supposed NFC tag is not an NFC tag.
  • The purchased non-original battery does not support NFC.

remains actually only the defect. Often it is due to the NFC tag because these chipsets are produced in large quantities, it may well happen that a tag was manufactured incorrectly. With our NFC implants, this can usually be ruled out because we subject each tag to strict controls before it is shipped. Should the NFC implant still not be found, please contact our support.

There is a writing error

A write error occurs when the smartphone has recognized the NFC tag, but there are problems with the labeling. If you hold your implant to the device before the write process is complete or the NFC tag is simply not writable, this error message occurs. To determine this, switch the tab to “read” and check after the scan whether the tag can also be written. If it is a 125Khz tag, it cannot be written. If the app shows a “MIFARE Classic®” format, these formats can be written, but MIFARE Classic® is not supported by most cell phones.

Missing rights

Our NFC implants can be provided with a 3DES encryption algorithm as it is based on a MIFARE NTAG216® technology. Depending on the design of the tag, a password can be set. If you do not have these write permissions or enter them incorrectly, you will get exactly this message.
